According to one definition of expatriate or “expat” by Webster’s is:

to leave one’s native country to live elsewhere

That is what I did.  I did not renounce my US Citizenship or loyalty. I simply chose to live elsewhere, in Costa Rica, in my case.  I made the move in February of 2013.  I have not looked back once.
